Home Telecom donates $200,000 to Berkeley’s Kay Phillips Child Advocacy Center
MONCKS CORNER — Home Telecom has pledged $200,000 over the next two years to the $2 million Kay Phillips Child Advocacy Center’s Berkeley Location Expansion Project. Home Telecom presented Kay Phillips with the first installment of $100,000.
“We are honored that Home Telecom has chosen to provide such generous support for the expansion of our Child Advocacy Center in Moncks Corner,” said KPCAC CEO Kay Phillips. “Critical projects like this are only made possible through strong community partnerships, and we are so grateful for Home Telecom’s investment in our essential services to the children and families of Berkeley County for years to come.”

Community Spotlight: The Kay Phillips Child Advocacy Center supports victims of abuse
Although organizations nationwide have been working for decades to prevent child abuse and provide outreach and educational resources, the sad reality is that abuse still continues today among the most vulnerable members in our communities.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 7 children experience abuse or neglect in the U.S. Statistics show that 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused before the age of 18, and more than 90% of those children will know and trust their abusers. Additionally, children with disabilities are 3.4 times more likely to be abused.

Berkeley County event highlights opioid crisis, grants for recovery, child advocacy
The assembly room at the Berkeley County Administration building was transformed into a space to recognize National Opioid Awareness Day and to feature those directly confronting the crisis. The event on Friday, Sept. 21, in Moncks Corner was attended by those receiving grant money and took center stage to continue efforts to combat addiction.
Berkeley County Council allocates $707K in opioid settlement funds to local agencies
At its regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 22, the Berkeley County Council approved $707,968.64 in opioid recovery funding to be distributed to local organizations and agencies assisting in the fight against the opioid epidemic. In 2024, the amount distributed was $1.2 million.

Exchange Club donates $35K to advocacy center
Members of the Summerville Exchange Club recently presented a $35,000 check to the Kay Phillips Children’s Advocacy Center. The money was raised through the club’s Azalea Classic Golf Tournament and After Dark Party earlier this year. Since 2006, the Summerville Exchange Club has donated more than $215,000 to the center.
