Therapy (Individual & Group)
Evidence-based, trauma-focused mental health services, designed to meet the unique needs of the children and caregivers are available at KPCAC. All services provided by KPCAC are at no cost to the children and families served.
Trauma Screening
A one-time appointment, to help determine if a person has experienced a traumatic event and how that event is currently impacting their life. During this time, a therapist will meet with the caregiver and child separately for the purpose of filling out a standardized questionnaire and asking follow up questions for clarification. The purpose of this service is to gain a better understanding of a child’s trauma history and to help make a treatment referral that would be most beneficial to the child.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
An evidence-based treatment used to help children and adolescents, cope with the impacts of their trauma(s). These sessions can include an individual session for the child or adolescent individual session for the caregiver, or joint sessions between the caregiver and the child. TF-CBT is appropriate for ages 3-17 years old. Sessions are weekly and range from 12-18 weeks.
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
A short-term, evidence-based treatment used to treat symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in adults and adolescents 16 and older. CPT is designed to teach how to identify and change unhelpful thoughts that often occur as a result of trauma. Sessions are weekly and range from 12-14 weeks long.
Risk Reduction through Family Therapy (RRFT)
An integrative, ecologically-informed, exposure-based treatment incorporating already existing evidence-based principles. This treatment is designed to address co-occurring symptoms of PTSD, substance use problems, and other risk behaviors that are commonly experienced by trauma-exposed adolescents. Provided to adolescents 12-18 years old, sessions are weekly and lasts about 6 months.
Alternatives for Families Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT)
A trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment designed to improve the relationships between children and caregivers in families that experience arguments, frequent conflict, physical force/discipline, child physical abuse, or child behavior problems. AF-CBT promotes the use of positive coping and self-control skills, effective discipline strategies, constructive family problem solving, and communication. Provided to families with children 5-17 years of age. Sessions are weekly and range from 6 months to a year, depending on the family’s needs.
Problematic Sexual Behavior Treatment
Treatment groups for children and adolescents who have displayed inappropriate or illegal sexual behavior or have sexual behaviors that are beyond their developmental level.
CHIRPS (Creating Healthy Interactions and Respecting Personal Space)
An evidence-based group therapy designed for preschool-aged children who have difficulty with personal space & boundaries or display sexual behaviors inappropriate for their age and developmental level. Requires participation of the child and caregiver(s) the child lives with. Provided to children 3-6 years of age. Sessions are weekly and last approximately 12 weeks.
Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI)
Evidence-based therapy implemented immediately following event or disclosure of abuse. Increases family support and communication regarding child’s symptoms after traumatic event. Ages 7-18, brief trauma treatment.
Girls Circle
A peer support group for adolescents, designed to foster self-esteem, maintain authentic connections with peers and adult women in the community. Provided to girls 11-17 years of age. Sessions are weekly with open enrollment.
Be Safe
A one-time psychoeducational session teaching body safety and proper boundaries to children ages 3-8 and their caregiver. Children will be taught the names for private parts, about “ok” and “not ok” touches, appropriate boundaries, & who to tell about getting a “not ok” touch.
Caregiver Support Group
A support group designed to provide caregivers with education and support following their child’s disclosure of child sexual abuse. This is a weekly support group with an open enrollment
