Annual Faith Leaders Breakfast

The Annual Faith Leaders Breakfast started in 2022 from the awareness that the faith community has a critical role in protecting and caring for the well being of children. Research shows the majority of children seen at a CAC have also been impacted spiritually, which impacts their ability to cope physically and emotionally. Our goal is to bridge the gap between child protection and faith communities so we can work together to protect children and assist in their healing from trauma.

In 2022, we hosted our first annual Faith Leader’s Breakfast! We gathered over 65 faith leaders from the Lowcountry for a conversation about the spiritual impact of abuse on children with Victor Vieth, JD, MA. Due to the great impact from this event- new relationships, training opportunities, awards of recognition, and more- KPCAC decided to make this an annual event!

In 2023, we had the honor of hosting Reverend Carrie Nettles, MDiv, VSP, chaplain at the Julie Valentine Center, and first ever Chaplain at a CAC in the United States. We also had a live panel of experts in the field of trauma and spirituality who answered questions about how to care well for all survivors of trauma within the faith context.

In 2024, Faith Leaders came together for a conversation about the spiritual impacts of trauma, and to hear a powerful keynote presentation from Rev. Dr. Jay Kieve, M.Div, Th.M, D.Min, who taught practical steps to protecting children from predators.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with the faith community in this way; working together to protect children. Faith leaders and community members who are interested in learning more can contact 843.875.1551 or community@kayphillipscac.org.
